Kathmandu: Nepal’s Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba held a bilateral meeting with Japan’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, H.E. Takeshi Iwaya, during her official visit to Tokyo. The meeting took place at Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and focused on expanding long-standing relations between the two nations.
During the discussion, Minister Rana conveyed deep gratitude for Japan’s meaningful participation in the Sagarmatha Sambaad, Nepal’s flagship global dialogue platform on climate change and sustainable development.
She also invited Japan Airlines to explore launching direct flights to Nepal, a proposal H.E. Takeshi Iwaya responded to positively and agreed to facilitate.
The ministers reviewed the upcoming 70th anniversary of Nepal-Japan diplomatic relations, first established in 1956, and emphasized collaboration in areas of trade, culture, and investment. Minister Rana encouraged Japan to support Nepal’s transition from LDC to developing nation status post-2026.
Highlighting Nepal’s investment potential, Rana urged Japanese industrialists to explore business opportunities in Nepal, assuring them of government-backed investor protection and incentives.
She further acknowledged the ancient cultural connection between the two nations, citing the influence of Lord Buddha’s teachings and the role of Lumbini as a spiritual and diplomatic bridge.
As Nepal and Japan look toward a milestone year in their diplomatic history, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepen strategic and cultural ties, opening a new chapter in bilateral cooperation.
