Krisha Chaulagain to Direct New Film ‘Jahajai Ma’

By PMST US-Nepal | June 10, 2025

Kathmandu: Director Krisha Chaulagain is gearing up for her next cinematic venture titled Jahajai Ma. The project comes shortly after she signed an agreement in Japan, where the film will be produced under the UNA Production banner—an extension of UNA Entertainment, a company known for distributing Nepali films in Japan.

Jahajai Ma will delve into the dreams and struggles of young Nepalis aspiring to go abroad, specifically to Japan. The recently unveiled theme poster visually captures this narrative, showing a man at the airport with his luggage, poised to board a plane—symbolizing migration, hope, and ambition.

The film will be produced by Ujjwal Guragain, with Purushottam Pradhan confirmed as the director of photography. Though the cast has not been announced, it is confirmed that actors from Nepal, Japan, and the Philippines will take part in the film, adding an international dimension to the production.

Jahajai Ma is scheduled for a 2026 release, with filming set to commence in Bhadra (August/September). The shoot will span across Nepal, Japan, and the Philippines, with a significant portion—about a month—filmed in Japan.

After her acclaimed work in Pitambar, Chaulagain is now fully immersed in pre-production for Jahajai Ma while also planning her next project, the sequel Pitambar 2, which will go into production after the completion of this film.
