Teaser of Nepali Film ‘Mohar’ Highlights Deuki Tradition

By PMST US-Nepal | June 10, 2025

Kathmandu: The official teaser for the upcoming Nepali film Mohar has been released, offering a compelling glimpse into one of Nepal’s controversial cultural practices—the Deuki tradition. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on Shrawan 23, 2082 (August 8, 2025).

The 1-minute and 18-second teaser has sparked significant interest. It captures unwritten social rules and raises questions about traditional beliefs, especially focusing on the Deuki practice—where young girls were offered to temples, often leading to a life of neglect and exploitation.

One of the teaser’s key highlights is actor Paul Shah in a dual role, portrayed with distinctly different looks—long hair in scenes with actress Benisha Hamal and child artist Sara Sharma, and short hair in romantic sequences with Niti Shah.

Mohar is written and directed by Om Prateek and produced by Chumban Jung Shahi under the Filmmakers Pvt. Ltd. banner. The ensemble cast features Arjun Jung Shahi, Mithila Sharma, Rabindra Jha, Laxmi Giri, Miss Pabi, Sushil Devkota, Laxminath Timilsina, Siddhartha Singh, Madhav Dutt Pandit, Geeta Thapa, Nabin Khatiwada, and Sara Sharma.

The film’s technical crew brings together top industry talents. Dipen Basnyat serves as the director of photography, while Kumar Maharjan handles action direction. Choreography is led by Kabiraj Gahatraj and Ramji Lamichhane, with Samir Miya overseeing VFX and Satyam Rana managing CGI. The music is composed by Suresh Adhikari, Thaneshwor Gautam, and S.D. Yogi. Bhupendra Adhikari is the film editor, and the teaser has been cut by Sahil Khan.
