‘Mahabhoj’ Premiere in Pokhara Sparks Emotion
Pokhara: The highly anticipated Nepali film Mahabhoj, directed by Dinesh Raut, held a powerful and emotional premiere in Pokhara on Monday. Featuring a star-studded cast, including Aryan Sigdel, Khagendra Lamichhane, Anjana Baraili, Malika Mahat, and Buddhi Tamang, the film left a profound impact on its audience.
Attendees at the premiere included Pokhara Metropolitan Mayor Dhanraj Acharya, Chief District Officer Durgadevi Sharma, several cooperative fraud victims, journalists, and figures from various sectors. The event also saw the presence of director Raut and producer Himal Kadariya.
Audiences praised Mahabhoj for its compelling storytelling, engaging presentation, and strong performances. But beyond admiration, the film ignited emotional responses—many viewers voiced intense outrage, deeply moved by its portrayal of injustice and exploitation. The audience, completely immersed in the film’s atmosphere, expressed their outrage in loud voices, saying that ‘Mahabhoj’ could spark a rebellion like the movie ‘Aago’ in the past.
The film delves into the struggles of victims of cooperative scams—a topic still painfully relevant in Nepal. Viewers warned that any attempt to censor or cut scenes under political pressure would face public resistance.
Earlier in Kathmandu, a preview screening of Mahabhoj also received positive feedback for its impactful narrative and entertainment value. Produced under the banners of Clock Work Creation and Picture Frame, Mahabhoj stars Dayahang Rai, Aryan Sigdel, Khagendra Lamichhane, Anjana Baraili, Malika Mahat, Gaumaya Gurung, Basundhara Bhusal, and Mohan Niraula.
Mahabhoj is set for nationwide release on Jestha 30 (June 13, 2025). Following the successful Pokhara premiere, the film will next be showcased in Butwal, Biratnagar, and Dharan.
