By PMST US-Nepal | May 7, 2025

Kathmandu: The highly anticipated Nepali movie Jaar held its grand premiere on Tuesday at QFX Labim Mall, Lalitpur, in the presence of former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, acclaimed actors, filmmakers, and notable dignitaries. This follows earlier premieres in Sikkim and Siliguri, cities with large Nepali-speaking populations in India.

Directed by Phurba Tshering Lama, Jaar is based on the beloved short story Jaar: A Story That Happened by renowned writer Indra Bahadur Rai. The film stars Saugat Malla, Anoop Bikram Shahi, and Geetanjali Thapa, whose performance was widely applauded during the screening.

Former PM Bhattarai praised the film for its faithful adaptation and historical depth, emphasizing its importance in helping the youth understand Nepal’s Tsarist-era society. He also suggested that the film deserves tax exemption due to its cultural and educational value.

MP Uday Shamsher Rana called Jaar a powerful and original cinematic work, urging viewers to see the film not only for its historical insight but also for self-reflection. Actress Manisha Koirala praised the film’s storytelling and its role in elevating Nepali cinema to international standards.

Actor Bipin Karki and actress Keki Adhikari both highlighted the film’s significance in the evolution of the local film industry. Director Dipendra Lama described Jaar as a key step in raising artistic quality in Nepal’s movie scene.

Shot with stunning cinematography by Saravanan Ilavarsu and featuring a compelling musical score by Jhuma Limbu, Jaar is rooted in a true story from the 1800s, offering audiences a rich visual and emotional experience.

The film is scheduled to release this Friday in theaters across Nepal and is expected to leave a lasting cultural impact.
