‘Janai Harayeko Bahun’ Renamed Amid Controversy
Kathmandu: The much-discussed Nepali film ‘Janai Harayeko Bahun,’ which drew attention for its bold title, has undergone a name change ahead of its release. Amid rising concerns from religious groups and individuals who objected to the word “Bahun” (Brahmin), the filmmakers have decided to revise the title to avoid potential controversy at the time of release. The film will now be released as ‘Janai Harayeko Manchhe: Sambandhka Dhagaharu.’
Alongside the announcement, the team released a powerful character poster featuring lead actor Bijay Baral. Dressed in a red shirt and carrying bags as he departs his home, his tearful expression captures the pain of familial separation. The makers have dubbed him an “Epic Natural Star.”
The film is slated for nationwide release on Bhadra 6 and features a stellar cast including Bijay Baral, Keki Adhikari, Miruna Magar, Gaurav Pahari, Sushank Mainali, Bhola Raj Sapkota, Rare Rai, Bhawana Khapangi Magar, Rupesh Lama, and Suman Thapa.
Directed by Himal Neupane and assisted by Manish Raut, the film is produced under the Paperclip banner by Kamal Neupane and Bimal Neupane, with co-producers R.K. Manandhar, Rupesh Lama, C.R. Basnet, Narayan Timilsina, and Chudamani Siwakoti.
The film’s story, screenplay, and dialogues are written by Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal. Cinematography is handled by Krishna Pariyar, with Nabin Gurung as the director of photography. The soundtrack boasts contributions from Thaneshwor Gautam, Arjun Pokharel, S.D. Yogi, and Prashant Siwakoti.
With its socially relevant story and emotional depth, Janai Harayeko Manchhe is expected to make a strong impression on audiences this festival season.
