By PMST US-Nepal | April 15, 2025

The song titled ‘Kafle’ from the movie ‘The Woolen Sweater,’ which will be released worldwide from Baisakh 26, has been released.

The song, which was released at a special event held at Big Movies in Kathmandu on Tuesday, presents the realistic flavor of the film. It features lyrics by Yubaraj Kafle, music by Jhuma Limbu, and vocals by Jhuma and Sujan Chapagain.

At the song launch event, film director Naveen Chauhan said that the word ‘Kafle’ is not just the title of the song but a reflection of society. “The dream we had when we went to Panchthar for the film is about to come true today. Since the film was made with a realistic approach, we have also presented this song in a realistic style,” said Chauhan. According to him, actor Bipin Karki has played the role of ‘Dharnidhar Kafle’ in the film, for which the culture of those with the Kafle surname was studied and researched.

Director Chauhan pointed out the difference between making a music video and a film at the event. “From the day I thought of making a film, this was a big mountain of questions in front of me,” he added. “I have worked day and night to make people realize that this is not a two-hour music video, but a film.”

Yubaraj Kafle, the lyricist of the song ‘Kafle,’ said that his old dream of turning his surname into a brand through a song has come true. ‘Teachers used to call me Kafle Kafle in school, and at that time, I used to get angry when I was called by my surname.’ “At that time, I thought, ‘I will make the Kafle surname a brand. I am happy that I got to start the journey with the Artmandu team, and my dream is about to come true,’ he said.

Musician and singer Jhuma Limbu said that the song ‘Kafle’ is connected to her childhood memories. ‘I also find my childhood in this song. “While trying to compose a song about Kafle, it was a coincidence to find out that Kafle was born and raised in the village,” she said. Limbu, who is active in studying Mundhum culture, has further strengthened the cultural depth embodied in the song.

The singer of the song, Sujan Chapagain, explained the structure of the song ‘Oonko Sweeter,’ saying that ‘Oonko Sweeter’ was made by gathering threads of many colors. Jhuma Limbu and Sujan Chapagain also gave a live performance of this song at the event.

The film’s lead actor, Bipin Karki, said that working on the film was a fun experience. ‘Filling autographs reminds me of myself. I have written autographs for many friends when I was in school,’ he shared his experience. ‘There are also some of my own experiences in this film.’

Actress Miruna Magar mentioned that she has an emotional connection with this song. ‘I have a kind of emotional connection with this song. I have been able to work on this song that my ancestors have sung,’ said Miruna. She said that during the making of this film, she also felt like she was woven into a sweater.

Actor Wilson Bikram Rai described the acting time of ‘ The Woolen Sweater’ as his ‘lucky time.’ Another actor, Alex Paras, expressed his gratitude to the Artmandu team.

Artmandu Pvt. Ltd.’s first feature film, ‘The Woolen Sweater,’ is a social narrative film made in a realistic style. The film, starring Bipin Karki and Miruna Magar in the lead roles, also features actors including Wilson Bikram Rai, Alex Paras, Pariksha Limbu, Sunil Pokharel, Maotse Gurung, Prem Subba, Suraj Tamu, and Bhavana Khapangi Magar.

The film, which has lyrics by Sujan Chapagain, is written and directed by Naveen Chauhan. Suraj Katuwal is the co-writer. Director Chauhan said that an attempt has been made to tie the cultural diversity, social contradictions, and vibrant colors of Nepali society into a single thread.

An introduction video of Artmandu was also presented at the song’s public release ceremony.
