Pitambar Sequel Announced After 51 Days in Theaters
Kathmandu: Following 51 days of theatrical screening, the team behind the Nepali action-drama film Pitambar has officially announced its sequel, marking it as a prequel-style second installment.
At a celebration event held in Kathmandu, the filmmakers shared their plans for Pitambar 2, despite the first film not achieving major box office success. Directed by Krisha Chaulagain, the second film will delve into the backstory of the original characters, with Chaulagain confirming earlier that she had already shot about one hour of footage for the prequel even before the release of the first movie.
Though Pitambar grossed over NPR 4.5 crore nationwide, the high production cost of over NPR 4 crore left the domestic earnings in the red. However, recovery through YouTube and overseas rights helped balance the investment.
The original film starred a powerful ensemble cast including Saugat Malla, Dayahang Rai, Sushma Pant, Pradeep Khadka, Anoop Bikram Shahi, Divya Dev, Pramod Agrahari, Supuspa Bhatt, and Aryan Sigdel, portraying a revenge-driven storyline.
Rumors suggest that the second installment will bring back Pradeep Khadka, Saugat Malla, and Sushma Pant in leading roles. The sequel will be produced by Bishal Chaulagain, with cinematography and co-production by Purusottam Pradhan.
Though no official timeline has been revealed, excitement is building around the Pitambar franchise as it attempts to create a deeper narrative through a cinematic universe approach.
