By PMST US-Nepal | April 29, 2025

Kathmandu: The official trailer of the much-awaited film The Woolen Sweater, written and directed by Nabin Chauhan, was unveiled on Wednesday during a program held in Kathmandu. With a runtime of four minutes, the trailer offers a compelling glimpse into the emotional and cultural depths of the film, which is slated to release on Baisakh 26.

Starring acclaimed actors Bipin Karki and Miruna Magar, the film tells a poignant love story between a Brahmin youth and a Gurung girl, highlighting the deep-rooted social contradictions that challenge their relationship. The trailer opens with the couple taking a photograph—an image that sets a nostalgic tone and hints at a timeline set two decades ago. It concludes with Bipin’s character peering into a camera reel, reinforcing the film’s vintage setting.

The trailer also captures the rich traditions of the Gurung and Brahmin communities, beautifully woven into the narrative through evocative visuals and soulful music. Singers Sujan Chapagain and Jhuma Limbu lend emotional weight to the soundtrack, enriching the romantic and cultural essence of the story.

Director Nabin Chauhan, speaking at the launch event, shared the challenges he faced in bringing his vision to life—from the initial dream to the release of the trailer. He expressed hope that audiences would connect with the film’s sincerity and heartfelt storytelling.

The Woolen Sweater spans locations from Panchthar to the West Bengal border, capturing a journey both geographical and emotional. In addition to Karki and Magar, the film features a robust ensemble cast including Sunil Pokharel, Maotse Gurung, Wilson Bikram Rai, Prem Subba, Alex Paras, Parikshya Limbu, Suraj Tamu, Sharada Devi Silwal, Menuka Pradhan, Deoraj Sherpa, Bhawana Khapangi Magar, Prakash Basnet, Laxmi Younghang, and Bhuwan Singh Rai.

This film marks the first feature-length production by Artmandu Pvt. Ltd. The screenplay was co-written by Suraj Katuwal, with cinematography by Chintan Raj Bhandari and editing by Krishna Bhandari.

With its blend of romance, cultural heritage, and social commentary, The Woolen Sweater is shaping up to be a moving cinematic experience for audiences in Nepal and beyond.
